Archaeological Museum of Olbia: A Crossroads of History and Culture

Located on the small islet of Peddone, facing the ancient harbor, the Archaeological Museum of Olbia is a striking architectural landmark. Designed to resemble a moored ship, with portholes and suspended walkways, it symbolizes the city’s historic role as a gateway to the Mediterranean.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the centuries, from prehistory to the 19th century, with a strong focus on the Phoenician, Greek, Punic, and Roman eras. On the ground floor, the most extraordinary finds are preserved: the remains of Roman ships sunk during the Vandal invasions of the 5th century AD — a rarity in the Mediterranean archaeological panorama.

The upper floor showcases the historical evolution of Olbia and its territory: Nuragic, Phoenician, Greek, and Punic civilizations, through to the Roman age, with sculptures of Domitian and Heracles and an extraordinary Punic stele.
